Encouraging the Public to Choose Natural-Based Products as an Alternative, Nucleus Farma Emphasizes Its Products' Safety

KOMPAS.com – PT Natura Nuswantara Nirmala, better known as Nucleus Farma, guarantees that its liquid supplemental products, Onoiwa MX and Onoiwa MX for Kids, do not contain Ethylene Glycol (EG) or Diethylene Glycol (DEG).
“Our liquid supplemental products are manufactured in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and the Good Manufacturing Practices for Traditional Medicines (CPOTB). We also use 100% natural ingredients,” said Edward Basilianus, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Nucleus Farma, in a statement received by Kompas.com.
Edward’s statement was a response to growing concerns about the dangers of EG and DEG in syrup-based medications. Despite this, Edward emphasized that Nucleus Farma respects the cautionary guidance issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes RI) to safeguard public health.
Previously, Kemenkes RI instructed all pharmacies and healthcare facilities to temporarily halt the sale of syrup-based medications. This precautionary measure was taken due to the suspicion that some paracetamol syrups containing EG and DEG might be linked to cases of acute kidney injury in children.
The Ministry of Health’s (Kemenkes) directive to halt the sale of syrup-based medicines is outlined in circular letter (SE) Number SR.01.05/III/3461/2022. It states that pharmacies are temporarily prohibited from selling syrup medicines for any illness to the public.
Natural Products as an Alternative
Edward Basilianus, who is also a member of the Central Indonesian Herbal Entrepreneurs Association (GP Jamu), suggested that during this time, people could choose natural products as an alternative medicine. “Herbal-based supplements have deep roots in Indonesian culture. Almost every region in Indonesia has its own traditional herbal remedies, known as ‘jamu,’ which have long been relied upon to treat various diseases, boost stamina, and maintain beauty,” he said.
Edward encouraged the public to return to these safer, traditional methods, referring to the concept of “back to nature,” a practice embraced by past generations. “Jamu is not only famous in our country; it has gained international recognition. Therefore, it has been proposed that jamu should receive global acknowledgment as an indigenous cultural heritage through UNESCO,” he added.
Finally, Edward emphasized once again that Nucleus Farma’s products are research-based, made from natural ingredients, and prioritize scientific studies and formulation reviews using the latest technology, without any chemical additives. “Therefore, Onoiwa MX and Onoiwa for Kids can be safely used by the Indonesian public to help maintain optimal health, especially for parents who want to provide the best options for their beloved children,” he added.
