Nucleus Farma Wins First Place in Innovation Competition in Taiwan

The Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE) is a premier exhibition and competition for inventions in Asia. TIE serves as a showcase for inventions, a platform for technology exchange, and an excellent opportunity for international intellectual property exchange and technology transfer.

In addition, this event showcases innovative products from researchers, academics, industry, and government to stimulate public interest in inventions and invigorate business, encouraging investments with scientific and competitive commercial value in their respective fields. This annual event this year included participation from over 25 countries, 69 organizations, and more than 600 technological innovations in competition.

At this event, Nucleus Farma won a silver medal with a team led by Prof. Dr. Apt. Syamsudin, M.Biomed. from FFUP, along with team members Sucipto Kokadir, Edward Basilianus, and Greesty F Swandiny. This achievement was in the category of the Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association, featuring their invention titled Onodiab Capsules Innovation Product: Indonesian Traditional Medicine as Antidiabetic. The research was conducted from 2019 to 2021, funded by the National Innovation System Research Incentive Program (Insinas), focusing on an antidiabetic medicine derived from a polyherbal extract consisting of yacon leaf extract, bay leaf extract, stevia leaf extract, and tea leaf extract.

The innovation has undergone preclinical testing. The Onodiab capsule innovation is the result of a collaborative research effort developed by researchers at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University, in partnership with PT Natura Nuswantara Nirmala (Nucleus Farma), which represents the business and industrial sector that will carry out the commercialization activities for the research findings. Nucleus Farma is a leading local biotech company known for its innovative production of natural health supplements, utilizing native Indonesian herbs to contribute to global health. In addition to being the first herbal company to receive FDA certification, Nucleus Farma has also been awarded by the Indonesian Record Museum (Rekor Muri) and the World Achievement Institute (Leprid) for its innovative products developed prior to Onodiab.

Onodiab has produced three international publications and one patent, and it is registered with the Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) as an herbal antidiabetic supplement in Indonesia. “I am proud and happy, and I certainly hope to continue to create and contribute to health programs through research and product innovation that meets the needs of the Indonesian people,” said Syamsudin in a statement shortly after receiving the medal.
